On Missions
>> Monday, May 16, 2011
The fact is, it is not the will of God for all of us to go to the wilds of Siberia; it is not the will of God for each and every one of us to become a missionary in a foreign land. However, it is the will of God for each and every one of us to participate in the Great Commission in a way that demonstrates a genuine disinterest in self and corresponding sacrifice.
Missions is simple – either you go down [into the well] with the rope or you hold on to the rope. We are called to one or the other.
-Paul Washer
So, you have three possibilities in world missions. You can be a goer, a sender, or disobedient. The Bible does not assume that everyone goes. But it does assume that the ones who do not go care about goers and support goers and pray for goers and hold the rope of the goers.

I will be praying for you on your mission. May there be a rich harvest for the glory of our Lord!
God Bless!
a couple of great quotes. I generally do not like to use the word 'mission' as it implies that some are 'on missions' and therefore that it is possible to be 'off missions'. In the same way that I hate to hear Christians talking about 'witnessing', as if it boils down to something that you say, rather than the way that you live your entire life.
Love the quotes. Love the blog. God Bless you in all that you do. I will be following your blog shortly :)
I really like the Paul Washer quote you shared. Who is Paul Washer? where did you find that quote?
I think that there is a point to be missional and intentional where ever we happen to be.
Peace.
Tom, thanks for for your comments. I agree that witnessing should be a way that we live our entire life - and literally speaking of the Gospel with others falls under that category of being a witness. Having conversations with the lost is indeed witnessing, as are the lifestyle choices we make, so the word 'witnessing' seems to be a fitting description of both, and is not meant to be mutually exclusive. Hopefully the word 'witnessing' will not be an offense to you on this blog, as it is used primarily to describe conversations with the lost. One of the dictionary's description of the word 'witness' means to, "testify to". When I use the word 'witnessing' I don't mean to imply that that is only done via conversations with people, but rather to introduce the topic of literally "testifying to" the Gospel. Glad you have joined, I hope you are refreshed and motivated in your walk with Christ!
Yeti, Paul Washer served as a missionary in Peru for 10 years, during which time he founded the HeartCry Missionary Society. I believe I pulled the first paragraph by him from an email update, and the second paragraph by him from their website. You can learn more about the ministry here: http://www.heartcrymissionary.com/index.php
