Day 12: Bless Your Offenders

>> Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
I Peter 3:9

A friend of mine used to be very confused with this command. How could we bless our offenders when they're doing things that aren't right? We'd be blessing them in their error! But then she realized that we are to bless our offenders with the qualities they lack. Do you know someone that deals with you impatiently? If you do, you could fulfill I Peter 3:9 by praying something like, "Lord, please bless _____ with patience." As this friend blessed those that hurt her, she not only saw God honor the blessings she requested, she experienced a transformation in her heart as her bitterness turned into love. It became a habit to respond in her heart with blessings, instead of dwelling on the shortcomings of others.
