Joshua 1:7-9, a Passage for the Night...

>> Sunday, November 30, 2008

...Be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

How To Have a Personal Revival

>> Monday, November 24, 2008

1. Get thoroughly dissatisfied with yourself.
2. Set your face like a flint toward a sweeping transformation.
3. Put yourself in the way of blessing.
4. Do a thorough job of repenting.
5. Make restitution wherever possible.
6. Bring your life into accord with the Sermon on the Mount.
7. Be serious-minded.
8. Deliberately narrow your interests.
9. Begin to witness.
10. Have faith in God.
Guidelines for revival by A. W. Tozer

It is one thing to mourn for sin because it exposes us to hell, and another to mourn for it because it is an infinite evil; one thing to mourn for it because it is injurious to yourselves, and another thing to mourn for it because it is wrong and offensive to God. It is one thing to be terrified; another, to be humbled.
--Gardiner Spring

You cannot repent too soon because you do not know how soon it may be too late.
--Sir Thomas Fuller

Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge!
11 Corinthians 7:9-11

Christian Warfare

>> Saturday, November 15, 2008

Wow, what a sobering reminder! If you've not yet seen Ryan's post, you can read it here.

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren,
be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye
may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:7b

Blest Be the Tie That Binds

>> Thursday, November 13, 2008

A couple days ago I had the opportunity to meet a family of a young lady that I've corresponded with for 4 years and never met in person! Little did I know that another friend of ours was acquainted with the same family as well and planned to head up their way before leaving our home. With God all things are possible!

Thank you to the Perrine family for their warm hospitality and wholesome fellowship, and to Lincoln Thompson for letting my brother and I hitch a ride! :)

Lucas, Isaac, me, Josiah, Catherine, Doris, Carrie, Lincoln, Emma and Sarah.
(And this is with 6 Perrine's already gone to bed - it was a full house!)

Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like to that above.

When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.

Democrat or Republican?

>> Sunday, November 9, 2008

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost and spotted a man in a boat below and lowered her altitude, then shouted to him, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude."

She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be a Republican."
"Yes, I am." replied the man. "How did you know?"
"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me."

The man smiled and responded, "You must be a Democrat."
"I am," replied the balloonist. "How did you know?"
"Well," said the man, "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were before we met, but, somehow, now it's my fault."
